Where to find smallmouth bass.

Finding smallmouth bass depends mostly on water temperature. They can be caught in shallow rocky areas with less than 10 feet of water. As the water temperature rises, they move to cooler, deeper water.

Tackle and Lure Suggestions

Smallmouth bass are extremely bait-oriented, so choosing the right lure or live bait is key to catching them.

  • 8-pound line
  • top water lures,
  • shallow diving and lipless crankbaits,
  • Mepps #3, tube jigs, and wacky worms.
