MUSKIE FISHING

Fishing for Muskie

Generally easier to catch in the fall, Muskies can be a tricky and rewarding fish to catch. They are an apex predator and eat lots of different fish.

Where to find muskie.

Muskies tend to stay in one general area and can often be found where weeds end and the deeper water begins (called the breakline). They like to lurk in deep weed beds or under different cover features in the lake, waiting for prey.

Tackle and Lure Suggestions

Adapt your rod & reel to the size of the lure you want to cast.

We recommend a heavy rod (length of your choice) with a 50-lb braided line for using 3 to 4-ounce lures.

Lighter lines might snap on backlash during a cast with heavy lures.

We recommend using a leader of 80-100lb made of fluoro, titanium, or steel.

Tips for Catching Muskie

Most are caught less than 30 feet deep and sometimes much shallower. Here are a few suggestions for making muskie fishing easier:

  • Casting and trolling are both effective
  • Muskies are often found near reefs
