Those of you who've never heard of a fly-in fishing vacation have a lot of new things to learn about how different it is from any other fishing trip you've experienced.
Here at Oak Lake Lodge, we call our vacations here a fly-in fishing trip because the only way to access our lodge is by float plane.
Once you're here, you'll experience a fishing trip like no other thanks to the unique remoteness of our location.
We want you to know that we're one of the last places in North America where you can find truly pristine nature unharmed by industry and excessive tourism.
If you thought such a place didn't exist anymore, you'll be amazed at what you'll discover here. This includes not only unharmed wilderness, but also a private lake, otherwise known as Oak Lake.
You can see why we only let 32 people in at any given time to enjoy our lodge and the surrounding nature.
Part of this enjoyment comes in the private boats we provide for all visitors to use out on the lake. These have a design for the utmost in personal comfort and convenience so you can spend an entire day on the lake and have a blast.

Padded Chairs and Other Amenities in Each Boat
We take special care in making sure your private boat has every amenity you need to make it comfortable for a full eight-hour fishing excursion.
This includes new motors we add every year so you don't have to worry about having the motor failure while out in the remotest sections of Oak Lake.
Each boat also comes equipped with padded seats so you can sit all day and feel like you're relaxing in an easy chair.
Unless you own a yacht, you've probably never experienced padded seats like ours in a fishing boat. Most small fishing boats you charter don't make you feel as comprehensively comfortable as ours do.
You'll even have all the amenities needed to make fish catches easily. This includes minnow buckets and a well to hold all the fish you're allowed to keep.
The fun you'll have on Oak Lake, though, goes beyond what's in the boat. Once you get out there, you'll have privacy like no other lake, plus a chance to commune with rare nature.

Float Planes and Fly-in Fishing.
Fly-in fishing is not "fly fishing", the method featured in the 1992 film with Brad Pitt, A River Runs Through It. Fly-in fishing just means you are flown to a lodge by a lake that offers quality fishing opportunities. This is extremely popular in Canada and especially in Northern Ontario, with countless lodges to choose from. Why choose us, Oak Lake Lodge? We believe we provide the most pristine, relaxing experience for you. We are able to guarantee this because we have accommodations for only 32 people. Lodgings are in separate cottages, so you don't have to worry about unwanted noise from thin hotel room walls. Yet, we provide all the comforts of home or better. This is not a camping trip fishing excursion. Comfortable beds, clean linens, hot and cold running water, flush toilets, dressers, a refrigerator, electricity from our generator, daily cleaning, and complimentary coffee left outside your door every morning are just some of the amenities. That’s just one of the reasons we’ve earned a five-star rating from Trip Advisor and the top ranking in Vermilion Bay. A separate living room provides couches, chairs, beverage refrigerator, a screened in front deck with lounge chairs, ceiling fans and lamps, and a wood stove provides a relaxing evening after a day of fishing. The lake features walleye, smallmouth bass and pike. The Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass are catch and release fish. The last thing you need on a fishing trip is to have trouble starting the motor on the boat. We buy new motors every year. Guests use 16’ Lund Rebel boats, or they can take a guided trip on a 17.5’ Lund Outfitters. You’re ready to roll as soon as you get on the boat because we fill them up with gas, provide minnow buckets, life jackets, paddles, padded chairs, coolers and a live well to hold the fish. Catches have included a 56” Muskie, 31” walleye and 30+” Northern Pike. If fishing is not for you or you want to do something else one day, we offer black bear and moose archery hunting in September. Experiencing autumn during your fly in fishing vacation here at Oak Lake Lodge is like no other nature experience available in the civilized world. Even if you already live near natural areas and love doing activities in the outdoors during the fall or winter, you probably have to experience an excessive amount of people in those places. Plus if it's a vacation spot, you probably work up a considerable appetite after excessive physical exercise. The problem with the two situations above is that being in nature with too many people already ruins any claims of the surroundings being unspoiled. At a vacation resort, it also means crowded restaurants, leaving you having to wait for food when you want food immediately. You won't find either of the above unfortunate scenarios here at Oak Lake Lodge. The nature here is truly pristine because there isn't any industry around for miles. We also have limitations on how many people we let in at a time, so getting food when you want it isn't a problem. Moreover, you'll have more food here than you can probably digest. Our meals are extremely hearty and generous in their servings. The question is how much of an appetite can you generate while visiting us? When you have cooler weather, invigorating fishing, and hunting all together, you can probably get as hungry as the black bears and moose are when they forage for food this fall.
