Early morning float plane departure to Oak Lake Lodge

You will board your float plane to Oak Lake Lodge early in the morning so you can start fishing at Oak Lake Lodge right away. We arrange the Air Service and the flight is included in our price. The only requirement is for you to be at the air service 1/2 hour before departure.

A float plane takes off and lands on water and it is quite an experience. Someone can often sit beside the pilot and the conversations with these experts flyers can be very interesting.

Smooth touchdown on Oak Lake

When you reach your destination of Oak Lake, the pilot will prepare for his smooth landing. It is amazing that when the pilot touches down on the lake you can hardly feel it. The landing is so smooth.

After touching down, the pilot then parks the plane at the dock just like you would dock a boat. The skills that the pilots have developed are incredible.

If a guest is interested, the guides will show you eagles, eagle nests, trumpeter swans and they can even show you the rocks that were marked by the aboriginal peoples during the fur trade.

How do I get to Oak Lake Lodge and Outpost?

Here is how most people get to Oak Lake:

Fly to Falls International Airport in International Falls, Minnesota, USA. This town is on the USA/Canada border.

Drive a rental car (or hire a van service - with our assistance) over the USA/Canada border and head to Vermilion Bay, Ontario.

Vermilion Bay, Ontario

Overnight in Vermilion Bay. The quaint Canadian town where you will take the float plane to Oak Lake.

Board the float plane at Wilderness Air early the next morning to our lodge. You will be fishing about an hour later.

Do you have your own plane?

Vermilion Bay has a 3800 ft hard surface runway (frequency is 130.7). We will provide you with information during the booking of your trip.

Arranging a van service

We can help arrange a van service to drive your group from International Falls, USA, to Vermilion Bay, Ontario, Canada.

The van service is available 24 hours a day and will cost about $300.

Driving instructions if you are using a rental car

Rental cars are around $250. Your rental car can be parked at Wilderness Air while you are fishing at Oak Lake. Wilderness Air is the outfit we use to fly our guests to Oak Lake.

These are two different routes to drive from International Falls, Minnesota, U.S.A, to Vermilion Bay, Ontario, Canada.

1. Take Highway 11 West to reach Highway 71 North, continuing to Highway 17 East to get to Vermilion Bay, and then take Highway 647 North (approximately a ½ mile to reach Wilderness air from the Highway). There is a sign on the road "Wilderness Air".

The waterfalls surrounding our lake make boat access impossible, keeping out adventurous weekend fishermen. And to be honest, if there were roads to Oak Lake, the drive would be too far.

We are the only lodge on the lake.

Our remote Canadian wilderness fly-in fishing lodge is the only lodge on all of Oak Lake. This is an oxygen-rich lake, fed by a provincially protected-waterway called the English River System.

There is no industry at all along any of the river systems that flow into Oak Lake. You will experience a pristine environment and catch healthy fish from a clean river system.

Our lodge provides the comforts of home. We are a small lodge, a boutique lodge, that caters to no more than 32 guests at a time.

Oak Lake Lodge is also a catch and release lake which is another reason our fish populations are so high. You'll be astounded by the number of fish you can catch in a Canadian lake that is secluded, without road access, and deep in the majestic and life-giving Canadian boreal forest.

Even though we are a catch and release lake, we do cook your morning walleye catch as part of a special "shore lunch" all guests love.

Hearty home style meals.

Three meals a day and pre-breakfast coffee delivery:

morning coffee is delivered to all cottages,
a full breakfast is served in the main dining room,
your morning walleye catch is cooked on the shores of Oak Lake and is served with side-dishes and beverages (guided trips),
a hearty supper is served in the main lodge.

Great boats and new motors

Oak Lake Lodge provides 16 foot Lund Rebel boats for guests and 17.5 foot Lund Outfitters for guests who hire a guide. All boats are equipped with Yamaha four stroke motors, flat floors and comfortable pedestal seats.

Our docks are maintained and in great condition with slip-resistant material for your protection.

Comfortable accommodations with the modern amenities.

Your cottage is kept spotless. You have heat, electricity, filtered running water, hot showers, flush toilets. We vacuum and scrub to ensure that your living space is clean. The cabins are carpeted and well furnished.

The main living area includes a large dining table so you can enjoy those late-night cards games, etc., a refrigerator for your beverages, a wood-stove — with chopped logs (we even light your wood-stove if you visit when the morning start to get cold), sofas, armchairs, tables.

Screened in porches because nobody enjoys swatting insects.

The porches are screened in so you aren’t swatting away any flies while you chat with friends after fishing.

Enjoy the incredible sunsets from our lounge chairs. The bedrooms include beds with clean linens, blankets and pillows, bedside lamps, curtains on the windows and dressers.

How does it work?

We get you out on the lake fishing very shortly after arriving at our lodge. You fly to International Falls, take a van service over the US/Canada border to Vermillion Bay, ON, Canada.

You stay overnight in Vermillion Bay. The next morning, in the very early a.m., you are on a floatplane headed for Oak Lake Lodge.

Shortly after your arrival, you are on the lake fishing!

Catch and Release Fishing ensures excellent fish stocks for year after year.

We are a catch and release lake; however, you enjoy a fish-fry shore lunch of walleye prepared by your guide, if you choose to hire a guide.

Walleye is a tasty freshwater fish found in the waters of Canada and North America. When anglers fish for walleye, the best bait is live minnows.

However, live bait presents several problems such as the minnow may wiggle itself off the hook, or it may die. Several tips can help anglers avoid these issues.

About Hook Sharpness and Size

Anglers who are fishing for walleye should buy the right hook size for minnows. Also, live bait hooks must be sharp. Anglers can use a professional honing tool or a nail file to sharpen the hook enough to pierce through the minnow’s mouth.

Spinner Rig Details

If anglers are having trouble tempting a walleye onto their line, then they may consider switching their pole setup to a spinner rig.

To bait a spinner rig properly, be sure to slide the hook through the top of the minnow's mouth and before its eyes. With the hook accurately placed, the minnow will appear to swim naturally in the water while it’s connected to the line.

In addition, the minnow can still draw oxygen from the water through its gills. Therefore, it will remain alive for a longer time.

A spinner rig system allows the angler to troll with the minnow or retrieve it without losing the bait.

The setup also helps a walleye grab the minnow since the bait will be floating at a natural angle. Some anglers prefer to construct a spinner rig by hand.

Consider making several rigs with different colored beads and one hook. If a large number of walleye are present, then use a small ¼ or 3/8 ounce bell sinker for the base with two hooks placed approximately eight inches apart.

Be sure to place the first hook about two inches from the base and set the second hook eight inches above the first one. Add a minnow to each hook and keep a snug line or add a float.

Keep in mind that walleye have a gentle bite. Therefore, a small shift in the line may signal success.

Oak Lake is fed by over a two dozen tributaries, plus additional connections to the English River.

As such, our lake contains excellent numbers of Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, Pike, and Muskie.

Our lodge operates on a catch-and-release basis of the Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike.

However, Walleye are caught, prepared, and fried as lunch right on the shore!

The Wildlife

Because our lodge is so remote, you can expect to see a number of wildlife such as beavers, moose, black bears, eagles, and a variety of other bird and northern animal species.

The carefully prepared Meals

Come morning, you will awake to find freshly brewed coffee awaiting you outside your lodge door.

Then, our cooks serve a full breakfast in the main dining room. Come lunch time, our guides prepare an outdoor fish fry of Walleye fish caught during that day.

They are prepped and fried up right on the shore. The fried fish is complimented by fresh garden salad and sides brought down from the kitchen.

At dinner time, hearty servings of steak, prime rib, turkey, roast pork, chicken, lasagna, and more may be brought to your table restaurant-style.

And finally, dinner is complemented by a variety of delicious desserts.

September Archery Hunting

During the month of September, we offer guided black bear and moose bowhunting.

You will be required to bring your USA hunting license, as it is necessary to receive your temporary Canadian hunting license.

Our black bear hunts are limited to ten hunters. Once you are briefed by our trained guides, you will be boated to the hunting area to set up your stand.

All hunters will be guaranteed an actively baited area, as all of our bait areas are tended to daily.

Our moose hunts are limited to four hunters and start in Mid-September when the bull moose answers to a specific call.

Our guided moose and black bear hunts are guaranteed to be the hunting experience of a lifetime, so don't miss out!

If you've never done a catch and release policy while fishing, our fishing guides will teach you a lot of valuable information. They'll show you exactly how to handle the fish properly for easy release back into Oak Lake without physical harm.

Catch and Release Demonstration from Your Guide

It does take some physical skill to handle the fish properly so you don't damage them.

But your guide can demonstrate the technique for you, including allowing you or your kids to do the same.

First, when fishing for Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike, we use barbless hooks so the hook doesn't cause internal damage to the fish. In addition, we discourage the use of live bait.

You'll learn how to avoid touching or squeezing the gills of these fish since it could cause harm to their breathing functions.

Too much handling in general could cause damage to their coating as well, so we recommend holding the fish just behind their gill covers.

Another challenge that takes some practice is the quick removal of the barbless hook. It does take some skill to pull it out fast without causing injury to the fish.

If some natural areas throughout Canada are still virtually untouched by the public, the wilderness around Oak Lake has had even less human contact.

By tradition, we limit visitors to 32 people at a time so the area doesn't become a major tourist attraction. Also by tradition, we've avoided all temptation to sell any of the nearby land to industry or other resorts.

When you fish on Oak Lake, you won't find other resorts, hotels, or any corporate industries for many miles.

This leaves Oak Lake and the surroundings a private natural refuge for you and your family. What happens, though, if you don't really want to apply the fishing aspect to our fly-in fishing escape.

Enjoying Nature on Oak Lake

One of the greatest things you'll appreciate about vacationing at our lodge is you're not forced into doing fishing. While it's a favourite pastime for many here, others prefer just being around and learning about the beautiful nature around them.

You won't find many other public places on the planet with as much pristine beauty. Just being on Oak Lake will already give you a small part of the nature you'll enjoy. We recommend using one of our guides to accompany you on your boat rides. All boats are comfortable and provided by us as part of your vacation experience.

As you travel Oak Lake, your nature guide scopes out wildlife, including trumpeter swans frequently seen along the shore. Plus, many of the rocks along Oak Lake have markings from Native Americans who lived in the area during the fur trade two centuries ago.

When you arrive at the dock by plane, the Naimians are there to greet you as just the beginning of the courteous service you'll receive.

After the initial greeting, you're free to do what you want. Most of this starts with our staff at the lodge where you'll receive service similar to what you've experienced in luxury hotels.

Staff at the Lodge

Much like in four-star hotels, we have staff in our lodge to provide anything you need at any time.

This includes our maids who make sure your private cottages have every amenity during the day. Considering some of you will prefer staying in your warm cottage if you're not into fishing or hunting, maid service is available to keep things clean or deliver items to you.

In the mornings, you'll be treated to hot coffee quietly left at your cottage doorstep as a complimentary service from our staff.

There isn't any need to tip since we leave it there before you wake up to start off your day on the right foot.

You're all set: your travel plans are booked; you're ready to go. Everything is on order.

Our equipment is the most up to date offered in Canada. Enjoy our 17 foot Lund Outfitter guided boats, top of the line fishing gear, safety vests, and fish lockers to keep your catch fresh at all times.

You have our Tuck Shop/Gift Shop at your disposal at all times for your bait necessities. You can also bring your own equipment from home. Our shop can also provide equipment repair and maintenance.

We promise you all the fishing you can handle in walleye and bass.

Those of you who've never heard of a fly-in fishing vacation have a lot of new things to learn about how different it is from any other fishing trip you've experienced.

Here at Oak Lake Lodge, we call our vacations here a fly-in fishing trip because the only way to access our lodge is by float plane.

Once you're here, you'll experience a fishing trip like no other thanks to the unique remoteness of our location.

Padded Chairs and Other Amenities in Each Boat

We take special care in making sure your private boat has every amenity you need to make it comfortable for a full eight-hour fishing excursion.

This includes new motors we add every year so you don't have to worry about having the motor failure while out in the remotest sections of Oak Lake.

Each boat also comes equipped with padded seats so you can sit all day and feel like you're relaxing in an easy chair.

Unless you own a yacht, you've probably never experienced padded seats like ours in a fishing boat. Most small fishing boats you charter don't make you feel as comprehensively comfortable as ours do.

You'll even have all the amenities needed to make fish catches easily. This includes minnow buckets and a well to hold all the fish you're allowed to keep.

The fun you'll have on Oak Lake, though, goes beyond what's in the boat. Once you get out there, you'll have privacy like no other lake, plus a chance to commune with rare nature.

You can group up six people at a time in two cottages, eight in two other cottages, and four in yet another. If you have 32 people in your family reunion, this works just perfectly.

You'll find things only comparable to what you'd find in a four-star hotel, including coffee delivered to your door every morning.

Also, the idea of catch and release maybe sounds overly green after years of always keeping and eating your caught fish. If this all sounds offbeat, they work in tandem with one another as part of preserving nature for your own benefit.

Ultimately, if not for a catch and release policy on our Oak Lake here at Oak Lake Lodge, the pristine nature we provide for tourists could get thrown out of balance.

We know our vacations are like no other, especially when you respect the idea that the type of nature here is extremely fragile.

It's also very rare when you consider that we're miles away from any other homes, resorts, or corporate industries. As a result, we take extra care in preserving the surroundings so you and other tourists can continue to enjoy one of the most untainted places left on earth.

Maintaining the species of fish in our Oak Lake is one of our top concerns. Keep in mind, though, that our catch and release policy only applies to certain species of fish.

Specifically, it applies to Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass, which frequently grow to large sizes, making them exciting catches.

Walleye and Muskie are smaller and more plentiful, so you can save those and eat them. Regardless, certain provisions apply to the catch and release policy.

The Proper Way to Catch Your Fish

When you hire one of our guides, you'll have a complete education on how to land fish in Oak Lake without causing them injury.

Many of our guides are lifelong residents of Ontario, Canada's remote wilderness, so they know the catch and release system like old pros.

Those who don't have experience with proper landing can inevitably damage fish to a point where it's no use releasing them back into the water.

Once in a while, unfortunate things happen due to various circumstances. In those cases, we let you keep those fish to eat so they don't die in the water.

It's in how you handle the fish, though, that makes all the difference. Your guide can show you how important a landing net is when you catch a large fish. The less you handle the fish with your hands, the less damage you cause.

Removing a hook works the same way, and using long-nose pliers helps make this happen faster.

But our guides will show you that if a hook gets embedded deep in a fish's throat, you have to cut the line to avoid yanking.

It's one reason why we promote the idea of using barbless hooks when you fish here.

Releasing fish is almost an art form on its own, and your guide will show you how.

Why this is important comes in how fast you get the fish back in the water. As more time passes out of the water, fish become stressed, so the sooner you remove the hook, the better.

We'll show you how to properly set the fish upright in the water and release them under their own power. Be sure that they look revived before you release them. If they don't look lively, they won't survive back in the lake.

Black bear and moose are so prevalent in the area, and you'll sometimes see them wander into the grounds close to our lodge. Hunting, however, takes place strictly in the woods so any shooting happens in a safe zone.

Getting Prepared

People that fish at Oak Lake Lodge are often surprised that we have instituted a rather strict "catch and release" policy.

This policy states that all fish caught on our private lake must be released and not taken back home.

Most of our guests understand this rule and even come to understand why it's so important.

However, others think that this rule is a mistake, because it means fishermen can't take their prize-winning trophies back home.

While that's an understandable position, we believe that catch and release is the best fishing option.

Catch and Release Steadies a Lake's Population

Many resorts and private lakes let their fishermen take home their fish, only to run into a major problem years down the road: no fish. Overfishing a lake is a real possibility, even if you restock it regularly. As a result, those resorts can only offer minimal chances to catch rather small fish.

Once we instituted our catch and release policy, we found that the population of our lake stayed steady. People were catching fish left and right without struggle. And once word got out that we had great fish, more people started to visit.

And you know what? Even with this increase in visitors, catch and release has kept our lake population steady to the point where it often grows exponentially every year.

The Fish in Our Lake are Huge

When people want to take a fish home, they aren't interested in the small or medium-sized ones: they want the massive, trophy-winners.

We completely understand that desire because we know how great a monster looks on the wall.

However, when people haul out the biggest fish in a lake, they are eliminating their genetic code.

Suddenly, those big fish can't reproduce and only the smaller fish survive.

As a result, they pass on their smaller genetic code to their off-spring. And unfortunately, that means there's nothing but small to medium-sized fish to catch.

Best Fish to Catch on an Ontario Fly-In Fishing Adventure

You don't have to disembark from your float plane as it turns into a boat from which you do your fishing. If this appeals to you, consider the fun of fly-in fishing.

Once you’ve loaded your fishing gear and board a float plane, you can enjoy the stunning views below you, while flying to your fishing destination.

If you’re an avid fisherman and want to experience fly-in fishing in beautiful Ontario this fall, here are some guidelines for catching some of the most common species of fish on a fly-in fishing trip.

Northern Pike

Northern Pike are the easiest fish to catch in our Ontario lakes as they’re attracted to almost any type of lure. They mostly hang out in the lakes of northern Ontario.

While small and medium northern pikes are typically found in thick lily pad weeds in the back of bays, larger ones usually congregate around the edges of weeds.

Small and medium-sized pikes mostly eat frogs, small minnows and bugs, but larger pike ensnare Walleyes and are commonly found guarding their prey on the outer bounds of a school of Walleyes.

Smallmouth Bass

Northern Ontario is known for its large amount of smallbass fishing. This species ranges in color from dark to pale yellow or pale green and can also be olive brown.

Its belly is spotted with a off-white color and its eyes are typically orange or red. Because it has extraordinary vision and hearing, this species can quickly overcome it prey, making it an ideal predator fish.

Once autumn is in full swing in Ontario, smallmouth bass, just as largemouth bass, seem to travel deeper into their waters. Smallmouth bass has a tendency to spread out more on still days when the waters are as smooth as glass.

The early bird angler catches the most smallbass fish, besides the largest ones.

Thus, get up early. Some of the best baits for catching smallmouth bass in the morning include leeches, minnow, crawfish and hellgrammites.

As for artificial bait, you can use anything that looks like a minnow. For example, streamer flies, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits and plastic worms work well.

Walleye Fishing

Walleyes, also known as Yellow Pickerels, walleyes are at their largest in the fall because they’ve been feeding on other fish to prepare for winter.

These predatory fish are small and have a dark color on their tops that ranges from brown to dark yellow.

Their underside is a pale color that can be white to pale yellow. They also have silver-colored eyes that give it a reflective feature in dark water.

Although most anglers focus on medium to deep water when fishing for walleyes, you can also find them in shallow water and particularly when there’s high water.

Some of the bait that’s considered excellent for catching walleye in autumn include reef runners, dancers, tail dancers and down deep husky jerks. For best results, fish for walleyes at night.

Sometimes things break or become lost while out on a fishing boat. If you were staying at any other fishing outskirt, no doubt you'd be out of luck. Many other locations away from immediate towns don't provide a good stock of essential fishing equipment.

Fortunately, you'll find most of what you need in our Tuck Shop. We regularly fly in fishing supplies and stock items. This includes new fishing reels and line in the event your reel breaks or your fishing line runs out.

You'll also find other fishing supplies, though we do have limitations in stock. However, because we limit our visitations to 32 people, you don't have dwindling stock.

How to Catch a Northern Pike on your fishing trip

When you come to Oak Lake Lodge, you'll experience the most fun fly in fishing experience in all of Ontario and Canada.

However, you may also suffer from extreme frustration when trying to catch the huge pike that live in our lake.

Never fear!

The following pike tips are practiced by our skilled and professional guides and should help you catch the pike of your dreams.

Have Patience for the Pike's Silly Games

Pike are notoriously playful fish when it comes to bait: they'll often hit the bait and let go or simply thrash around it.

While we know it's definitely rude to play with your food, the pike has no such objections.

That's why you need to have some patience: if you see your bobber bobbing up and down without sinking, you likely got a pike.

Some pike will happily nip away your bait without taking it for a run. There's not much you can do about this, but playing with the bait a little bit may incite it to take a full bite.

And if your bait keeps disappearing down the gullet of a pike in nips and bites, keep casting in the same area: there's bound to be more!

Choosing the Best Bait

Pike in our lake get really big: you're going to need bait at least six to eight inches long to catch the biggest pike. While you may be able to find live bait, such as worms, leaches, or minnows in that size, you may need to use artificial lures.

The best artificial lures should be white, yellow, or chartreuse versions of the following:

When it comes to rod, reel, and line, you're going to need ones that can handle 20 pounds: our pike get huge, thanks to our unique “catch and release” policy, which guarantees an active and large fish population.

Get the Gas and Bug Spray Off Your Hands

Pike are very sensitive to smells and the two strongest in your boat are likely to be gas or bug spray. If you handle either of these substances in your boat, don't bait your fish immediately. Instead, wash your hands in sugar or salt (using water kept on the boat) and carefully dry. This should remove the harsh scent of these substances from your bait and encourage pike to strike.

Avoid the Weeds

You're probably used to fishing for pike in weed beds: pike are “ambush” predators that use the cover of weeds to attack their prey.

However, this is a mistake if you want to catch the biggest pike in Oak Lake: only small to medium pike hang out in the weeds. And we don't really have small or medium pike in our lake!

Instead, you should head out for the open waters of our lake: large pike prefer hanging out here, near the bottom of the lake, to ambush their favorite prey.

Spring

After the winter snows, spring temperatures here are truly refreshing. With the snow melts and the reawakening of wildlife, you can expect temperatures within the 40s and 50s Fahrenheit. At night, it still gets quite cold, though many who stay here appreciate it. Thanks to a reliable and safe wood stove in every cottage, you can sleep warm and secure.

Fishing season starts in the spring, and the fish here are at their hungriest because of the cooler temperatures. Because we have no industry around us for miles, the fish in Oak Lake are like manna from heaven. It's a chance to catch fish without worry of any ingesting toxins or other pollutants.

Summer

Some of you might be surprised to know that it can get close to 80 degrees here during the day in the middle of summer. It's one reason we see most of our visitors in June, July, and August. Fishing is still fantastic despite the heat, though you'll never have to worry about excessive heat to make you (and the fish) feel lethargic.

At night, it cools down considerably where you'll love breathing the fresh, night air out on your private desk outside your cottage.

Autumn

You'll love visiting here in the fall when the weather starts to turn gradually cooler and the brisk air inspires hiking or hunting out in the surrounding wilderness. Taking Great Photos on your Fly-in Fishing Vacation

If you're interested in the fly-in fishing experience at Oak Lake Lodge, you need to master fish photography before you come. Why? Because we utilize a unique “catch and release” fish management system. This helps us maintain a steady population of the biggest fish in Canada.

Unfortunately, it means you won't be able to take your fish home.

However, one look at our fishing photo wall shows just how exciting a great fishing shot can look. Mastering this art will help you share your monster catch with your friends and family. Follow these tips to take the best fishing shots of your life!

Checking the Camera

Take a few hours to simply play with your camera and its settings. Learn how to set it to “auto focus” so you don't have to fiddle around with that during a battle with a fish.

However, you should also make sure to set your ISO to a reasonable level (about 200-400 should be good for day fishing shots) as well as your aperture (4.5 is perfect). Shutter speed should be around 500-1,000, depending on the light.

Watch for Condensation

When you're out on the lake, you need to make sure that you store your camera in a water-tight container with the lens cap on. If you don't take these precautions, your lens will be filled with condensation. This will make your shot blurry and can even ruin your lens if the water seeps inside.

Set It To Action Shot

You don't have to limit your fish photography to just a single “trophy” shot. Instead, you can use the “action shot” setting to take multiple pictures of its capture and release.

Action shot takes multiple pictures as long as you hold down the shutter, allowing you to get multiple great shots.

Clear the Shot

Before taking any photos, make sure to clear any extraneous items out of the way. These items include such obvious obstacles as a fishing pole, a tackle box, or even a water bottle.

However, you should also make sure other fishermen stand back and avoid getting parts of their body in the shot. This will help ensure a great, focused, and clear shot.

Avoid Centering the Shot

Photography is all about avoiding centering the shot: this creates a static and uninteresting photo. Instead, break up the image into “thirds” and try to position the body of the fisherman along the intersection of the far left thirds. The fish can then be positioned along the right third. This creates a more dynamic and interesting shot.

Properly Hold the Fish

Holding a fish properly requires handling a very slippery and afraid animal that will try to fight out of the hands holding them. Keeping one still for a photo is tricky, but not impossible. Simply have the person stand with their arms in front of them and their hands in a “cupping” position. Now, place the fish in their hands.

This presents the side of their body for the best picture. The person holding the fish needs to squeeze very slightly to keep the fish still. Then, it can be easily released back into the water without suffering from too much air exposure.

However, you can also have the person hold the fish vertically and away from their body by placing their thumb on its bottom lip and the rest of their fingers on the bottom jaw. The fish shouldn't be able to bite or squirm away from such a grip.

Admit it: there's nothing more relaxing than sitting on a private lake, surrounded by nature, with the full knowledge that there's nothing that can disturb you and no one who can make you leave until you're good and ready.

There isn't any road access.

Locals can't get to the lake: there's no road access, boat access is restricted by waterfalls, and camping isn't allowed within 1200 feet of the shoreline.

That means that the only people you have to share the lake with are other guests at the lodge. It's private, isolated, and completely and utterly peaceful.

Picture this: you're relaxing on the lake, leaned back in your boat and watching your fishing pole. There's no one else in sight--just you and your party, the water, and the gorgeous shoreline.

If you're interested in carrying on a conversation, your guide has plenty of fascinating experiences to share with you--or they can point out the fascinating natural features along the way. On the other hand, if you prefer the quiet, your guide will sit there with you and allow you to enjoy the silence.
