Preparing for Your Fly In Fishing Trip

Preparing for Your Fly In Fishing Trip

You're all set:  your travel plans are booked; you're ready to go.  Everything is on order.  Now, all you have to do is pack for your fly-in fishing trip and make sure that everything is in order so that when you get there, you can kick back, relax, and enjoy your stay.

First, check out our what to pack checklist.

Keep in mind that there's a 60lb luggage weight limit for each individual on the trip, so you'll need to streamline your packing to accommodate this requirement.

Don't worry!  Many of the things you think you'll need will be provided for you.  We take care of your linens and pillows, soap, towels, cards, and board games--so you just need your personal supplies.

You will need to bring your own shampoo, deodorant, and other basic necessities.  Pack what you'll need to feel comfortable, just remember that weight limit.  Of course, fishing gear can easily take up the bulk of your luggage weight.  By the time you pack your vest, waterproof rain gear, and other fishing gear, you'll know exactly how much space you have left.

Don't forget that you'll need a sweatshirt or two and a warm jacket.  Even in the middle of July, the temperature dips down quite a bit lower.  It'll be in the seventies and eighties during the day, but it can get chilly fast at night, so you'll want to be sure that you have warm clothing on hand.  This makes trying to fall asleep easy and peaceful--no tossing and turning as you fight to get cool.

As you're preparing for your trip, you might also want to take into consideration the hours when you won't be fishing.  Depending on your level of fishing enthusiasm, there may be long stretches when you'll want something else to entertain yourself.  Keeping that weight limit in mind, consider packing an e-reader or a couple of books that will help keep you entertained, or perhaps a handheld gaming device, for the younger generation.

Don't forget your sun protection!

The temperatures might be mild, but the sun can still get to you--and you're going to be spending quite a bit of this vacation outside.  Don't forget your hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen!  Ladies, if your daily moisturizer doesn't contain SPF, consider investing in one that does.  Used to skipping the sunglasses?  Thinking about picking up a cheap pair for the trip.  Sunlight glinting off the water can cause eye strain in a hurry, and the sun in the wrong place at the wrong time can make for an uncomfortable boating trip.

Bags all packed and ready to go?

Now you just have to take care of the real necessity:  kicking back, relaxing, and letting the stress of the world float away.  While you're at Oak Lake Lodge, many of your responsibilities will be taken care of for you.  Meal preparation won't be an issue.  You don't have to worry about rushing off to take care of your next task because there's nowhere for you to go.  For the duration of your stay, you're in good hands, with nothing for you to worry about except where the best fishing spot on the lake can be found.
